A flying boat or seaplane trip on Lake Como is one of the most memorable experiences you can have here — and many visitors say it becomes the highlight of the entire trip. The photos and  videos that you see here have been provided by one of our guests in May 2026.

The flights usually depart from the historic seaplane base in Como run by Aero Club – Como, the world’s oldest seaplane organisation, founded in 1930. The club operates directly from the lake itself, so the experience starts with the aircraft taxiing across the water before lifting off over the lake and Alps. Click on the visual below to see the plane leave the lake shore.

What It’s Like

It’s much more emotional and scenic than a normal sightseeing flight because: you take off directly from the water and the the planes are often small classic-style seaplanes. You fly low enough to clearly see villas, villages, ferries, and mountains as well as the lake’s unique shape which looks spectacular from the air.

Most flights pass over, Bellagio, Varenna. Menaggio and famous villas and gardens with a great view of the Alps surrounding the lake.

People consistently describe the takeoff itself as unforgettable because the aircraft skims across the water before suddenly climbing into the air. A brief glimpse of the panoramic view while in the air can be seen when you click on the visual below.

How to Book

Booking tips:

  • reserve several days ahead in summer
  • sunset flights are especially popular
  • mornings often have calmer weather and smoother water
  • bring sunglasses because of lake glare

Where to Find It

The seaplane base is directly on the Como waterfront at Viale Massenzio Masia, Como. It’s walking distance from the main lake promenade and nest to Como 1907 football stadium. You’ll actually see the seaplanes landing and taking off from the promenade during the day.

Is It Worth It?

For most people: absolutely yes. It’s expensive compared to ferries or boat tours, but it is a rare aviation experience and offers something unique with incredible photography opportunities::

  • cinematic views
  • access to one of the world’s last active historic seaplane bases

The atmosphere also feels very “old Lake Como” — elegant, adventurous, slightly nostalgic, and connected to the glamorous travel culture of the 1930s and 1950s.

Many travelers combine it with an aperitivo afterward in Como or a lakeside lunch.
