Housed inside Palazzo Giovio in the historic centre, the museum tells the story of Como from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. The collection includes Roman artefacts, bronze sculptures, ancient jewellery and Egyptian and Greek findings discovered in the area.
Porta Pretoria Romana
Once the main entrance to Como during Roman times, Porta Pretoria was rediscovered in 1914 and remains one of the city’s most fascinating archaeological sites. Visits are possible upon reservation through the Archaeological Museum.

Lakefront Walks
One of the most beautiful experiences in Como is simply walking along the lakeside promenade. From Villa Olmo to Cernobbio, the route offers spectacular scenery, elegant villas, gardens and views across the lake.
Villa Olmo
This historic neoclassical villa is surrounded by large public gardens and sits directly on the waterfront. During the summer months the nearby lido is also open for swimming and relaxing by the lake.
Brunate Funicular
The historic funicular railway connects Como with the hilltop village of Brunate in just a few minutes. From there you can admire panoramic views over Lake Como and, if the weather is clear, even the Alps. More adventurous visitors can continue to the Volta Lighthouse.
